Katie Porter : Driven to Deliver

Brhum Bhatia Business, Hamilton, HHS, Katie Porter

I've photographed Katie Porter a couple of times now. I remember the first time because Katie left a lasting impression. Katie is driven. Now I meet driven people all the time - from CEOs of global companies to self-starters about to make their mark in the world. Katie ranks with the very very best of them. She knows what she wants and she knows how to get it. She's an unstoppable force.

Let me tell you a little story about Katie during our first session. Now it's typical in a headshot session for me to shoot between 60-80 frames. Sometimes I sit with my clients and narrow this down to, say, a top 20. At this stage most clients want to mull over the top 20, weighing up the different merits of each shot. Katie, however, was different, she told me she was prepared to make a decision right there and then. So we narrowed it down, then we did it again and then she chose her image. Job done. Move on. Wow.

So who is Katie Porter, well...

" I am the Director of Research Administration at Hamilton Health Sciences. I provide operational and strategic support to the HHS research enterprise, ensuring that a community of 1500 researchers and staff work cohesively together toward an ultimate goal of sustainability, while ensuring that HHS remains one of the most influential research communities in the world."
-- Katie
Now truth be told, I don't know much about HHS, but the fact that they're world-class make me proud. The fact that Katie has a hand in this, doesn't surprise me. A little more about what they do...

"We provide a strong research infrastructure for one of Canada's largest academic hospital networks in areas such as ethics, contracts, capital, research development and human resources."
-- Katie

Katie is also an author, her book "Steer Your Career" is used as a textbook at the University of South Central Florida’s Master of Research Administration degree. Her background includes an Executive MBA from the Ivey School of Business at Western University, and she is also a regular lecturer at McMaster University
By now I hope you're getting the same kind of impression about Katie that I did during that first shoot - she's driven - and it came as no surprise to me to find out that she recently won the Outstanding Contribution to Research Management Award from the Association of Research Managers in the United Kingdom. Despite all that I have mentioned, I'm probably just scratching the surface of the hugely impressive, down-to-earth and charming Katie Porter, I urge you to click on the link below and find out more about this remarkable woman, helping to put Canada on the map, right here on our doorstep.
